Women Coming Together for Children Luncheon

As a Gold Sponsor of Beyond Basics, eTitle and Linda, an Honorary Co-Chair, were proud to support the 2014 Women Coming Together for Children Luncheon.


The event took place on March 19, 2014 at the Colony Club and honored the following women for their commitment to helping Metro Detroit children and families:

Mary Callaghan Lynch – founder and artistic director of The Motor City Lyric Opera which presents an anti-bully opera annually to 10,000 kids free of charge. Opera On Wheels has been performing for Beyond Basics partner schools since 2007.

Saunteel Jenkins – lifelong Detroiter who is dedicated to the betterment of the city. She was elected to Detroit City Council in November 2009 at her first attempt at elective office. In July 2013, she was voted by her colleagues to serve as Council President. She is committed to transparency in city government and serving as the voice of Detroiters as the city moves forward with restructuring.

beyondBasics_jaunitaJuanita Moore – a professional with over 30 years of museum experience. She has served as a curator, educator, administrator and museum planner. Ms. Moore is the current president and CEO of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, the largest museum of its kind in the nation. Prior to assuming her current post, she served as executive director of the American Jazz Museum and the Gem Theater located in the 18th & Vine Historic District in Kansas City, Missouri.

Norma Olsen – a dedicated Beyond Basics volunteer. Since Norma began volunteering with Beyond Basics she has helped students practice their reading skills as a Reading Buddy and has also helped students write and edit original stories as a Publishing Center volunteer at Thirkell Elementary School.

Susan Sherer – the CEO of The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW), a non-profit that provides energy assistance to Michigan residents in need. Susan advocates for sustainable solutions for the low-income customer and collaborates with partners to drive social innovation.

Susan Sohn – volunteer of Beyond Basics since 2002. For the past three years she has volunteered as Reading Buddy and in Publishing Center at Thirkell Elementary with her mother, Norma (another of our honorees). Susan always enjoys spending time at Thirkell Elementary because the children are always loving, polite, and fun to be with.
